Grey Ghost 5K & Goblin Gallop 1K

Today was the big (cold) day!   Lydia's been training in Run Club for the upcoming Grey Ghost, held every year in October.
They had a 5K and a 1K called the Goblin Gallop.  Lydia chose to participate in the shorter race.  Every year, I see the signs for the Grey Ghost all over town.  And the morning of the race, I always think: "Those people are crazy!  It's freezing/rainy/cold/ridiculous outside."
Well, we were those crazy people this year!  We got all bundled up and went out to Oaklawn Plantation to cheer on our girl!

Lydia was very excited to find some of her Run Club friends joining her in the pack.
Emma, Becca, and Marlo were there to run the race as well.

They lined up by grade and waited for the race to begin.

Then they had a staggered start, leaving by grade.

Lydia was a great sport about the whole thing.  She even kept her chin up with she got directed down the wrong path by accident.  (There were three racing paths for the different races that took place that day.)  She just turned around and made up the time as best she could.  She kept close to her friend Becca through much of the race and just generally had a good time.

And in the end, she crossed the finish line to our cheers!!

Each child got a gold medal, so Emma and Lydia stood on the award podium and posed like they were Olympians!

Too cute!

And as cold as it was, you would think everyone would be ready to go home, but they had some kid games, snacks, and prizes out there, and the girls wanted to check out a few before leaving.

So here's to my little track star!!

Congrats to Lydia for completing her first race!
